Tips to Prevent Dehydration

Dehydration (lack of fluids in the body) can lead to disturbances in brain function such as concentration and thinking ability. In addition, dehydration can also decrease your stamina and work productivity through the headaches, tiredness, lethargy, and weakness. In the long run, dehydration causes urinary tract infections and kidney stones. Therefore, everyone is encouraged to drink safe and in sufficient quantities water.

Here are some tips to prevent dehydration :

1. Consumption of 8-10 glasses of water per day.
Drinking water needs are diverse depending on age, gender, and activity. The body's water needs for youth and adults ranging from 1.8 to 3.0 liters per day. Because about 1/3 of our body water consumption derived from food (invisible water), then the water consumption from the drinks around 2 liters a day.

2. Drinking water for pregnant women should be increased to 10-13 glasses per day.
Water consumption for pregnant women much more from the non-pregnant women because there is a need of water for the fetus and a higher metabolism.

3. Drinking water intake with a target volume of 2 liters of urine per day can prevent recurrence of urinary tract stones. Intake of large volumes of pure water, accompanied not resist the urge to urinate, is a way to prevent urinary tract infections.

4. In addition from the drinks, the needs of body fluids can also be obtained from the juice, tea, coffee, fruit and vegetables.

5.Drink before thirsty.
Thirst is an indication that the body is dehydrated (loss of body fluids). Thirst is a signal that the body fluid deficit and body feel more thirsty than the felt on the tongue.

6. Important to teach children to drink regularly before feeling thirsty. As we get older, the response of the tongue against the thirst decreases, therefore it is important to drink regularly to help body fluids balance and work optimally.

7. During sleep we lose the same amount of water as much as normal daily activities. Thus, despite the cold weather though, the body needs water in almost the same amount as in hot weather.
